When looking to purchase a house, you need to find a good real estate agent that you feel confident about. There are several steps you can take to ensure you get the real estate agent that is perfect for your buying needs.

Finding a Good Real Estate AgentThis is going to be one of the most important decisions of your life and you want to make sure you hire the right real estate agent to represent you.

There are several ways to find a real estate agent. First, make sure the agent is a member of the National Association or Realtors. Only agents who are members of the NAR can be called “Realtors.” One of the best ways to find a good agent is to talk to friends or family and get recommendations for ones they have had good dealings with. You can also look through the newspaper, on the internet, and even on TV shows that advertise homes for sale.

Real estate agents have a high turnover rate. You want to find an agent that has been a Realtor for at least 3-4 years. You also want to make sure you have a full time Realtor. Part time real estate agents may not be able to give you the time and devotion you need to find the perfect house for you.

There are quite a few different accreditations real estate agents can have. When looking for a real estate agent, look at their business cards for the letters GRI .GRI stands for Graduate, Realtors Institute, which is given out by the National Association of Realtors. If you don’t see those letters, feel free to ask if they have the GRI credential

Select a few Realtors and set up and interview to meet with them. Let them know what kind of house, neighborhood and the area you are looking for. The interview should last around 45 minutes to an hour. It will give you a good indication if the Realtor is familiar with the area you’re targeting.

There are two different types of agents. A dual agent is one that works with both buyers and sellers. A buyer’s agent is an agent that represents the buyer. An agent that works with both buyers and sellers cannot represent both fairly. There is a conflict of interest when a Realtor works as a buyer’s agent and a sellers agent. By default, the agent represents the seller and must consider their needs before a buyer’s. An exclusive buyer’s agent is one that works exclusively for buyers and does not sell houses or accept listings.

The bottom line when choosing a real estate agent is to make sure that he or she is looking out for your needs and working to find the best home for you.
